Long-term care insurance helps you pay for the personal care or supervision that may be needed because of an accident, illness, or the effects of aging. The McGraw-Hill Companies Long-Term Care Plan complements the coverage you receive from the Corporation's healthcare plans by providing benefits for extended care that Medicare and The McGraw-Hill Companies' healthcare plans are not designed to cover.
The services covered by long-term care insurance may be needed by people:
  • who have a long-term physical illness,
  • who are disabled, perhaps because of an accident, or
  • who have a cognitive impairment (such as Alzheimer's disease).
Long-term care isn't just for elderly people. A person with a physical illness or disability may need help bathing, dressing, or eating. A person with a cognitive impairment may need supervision, someone to ensure their safety, or someone to remind them to do everyday activities.
Long-term care also doesn't just mean care in a nursing home. Along with nursing home care, long-term care insurance benefits can help you pay for home health care, adult day care, and care in assisted living facilities.
Wherever it is provided, long-term care can be very expensive. When the care is required for an extended period, the affected person's family may have significant financial problems covering the cost. Long-term care insurance is designed to provide financial security by helping you cover the costs of this care.
