You are eligible to participate in the program if you are a regular or project status employee with continuous service of one year or more and work 20 or more hours per week.
You can be reimbursed for up to $10,000, less applicable withholdings, of qualified expenses for your adoption.
Qualified adoption expenses are the reasonable and necessary adoption fees, court costs, attorney fees, and other expenses that:
-
are directly related to, and the principal purpose of which is for, the legal adoption of an eligible child by the employee;
-
are not incurred in violation of state or federal law or in carrying out any surrogate parenting arrangement; and
-
are not expenses in connection with the adoption of a child who is the child of the employee's spouse.
An eligible child means any individual who has not attained age 18, or is physically or mentally incapable of caring for himself or herself; or is a child with special needs, as defined in Code Sec. 23(d)(3).
